“It’s getting late. We should head back to the mainland,” Riku called out over his shoulder as he walked across the planked bridge over the beach. Sora watched Riku get so far, fingering the small star-shaped fruit in his palms.
Swallowing hard, the brunette rushed after his best friend, “Riku! Wait!” He whimpered, his courage fleeting as he caught up to the platinum blonde as he turned around to face him.
“Yeah?”
“Umm…”
“Cat got your tongue?” the boy quipped, raising a brow.
“No!” Sora grumbled, shifting his feet uneasily, thrusting the star-shaped fruit into the boy’s face, “Be my Valentine!” he muttered quickly, his face heating up with a furious blush that reached the tip of his ears.
Riku blinked, gingerly taking the fruit, his eyes slowly raising to his hairline, “Oh…”
He felt so pitiful as he stood there under the scrutiny of Riku’s gaze that he could not even force himself to meet. Sora’s bottom lip trembled, tears starting to prickle the corner of his vision enhancing his embarrassment.
“Here,” Riku said, offering out the other half of the papou fruit he had halved.
Sora sniffled and stared at him hesitantly before watching as Riku took a tentative bite of the half he still held onto, “Riku?”
“Eat it,” the platinum blonde grinned, chewing around a mouthful of the sweet fruit.
Sora hurriedly took the half offered to him and starting eating on a corner of the fruit, his face flushed a soft shade of pink.
“I thought you…” Sora whimpered, chewing on his half, tears overwhelming his vision.
“Shh, stop making yourself cry, idiot,” Riku ruffled his hair and smiled, “Come on my Valentine. Have faith in me,” he spoke quietly as he licked his thumb of the juice that had slipped out of the fruit.
