Her heart sank a little more, eyes focusing on the hard line of Inuyasha’s back as he walked in front of her. She was at a crossroad of what to do about everything she felt for the hanyou. Swallowing thickly, Kagome’s pace slowed as her mind clicked into gear.
Kikyou had been there. She had seen it with her own eyes. Again, Inuyasha refused to believe her and she was left feeling broken and forgotten in Inuyasha’s haste to rescue the undead miko.
As sadly as it was, Inuyasha had all but abandoned her when Kikyou had stolen the large half of the jewel they had spent months collecting. Kagome’s hand balled into a fist as she held it to her chest, the make-shift sling not doing much for the pain shooting along her veins.
A broken arm, how appropriate, she thought as she held in her sneer. She was angry, far from angry actually, more along the lines of livid. Kagome had spent the last year by the hanyou’s side, taking care of his wounds, encouraging him when he lost trust in his abilities. She was the one that stood by his side and took the pain from him, so that he wouldn’t have a heavy heart.
Her lip trembled as the tears prickled the corner of her eyes, she inhaled sharply trying to calm the rushing currents of her emotions before they become too uncontrollable. Furry ears swiveled in her direction, as Inuyasha crossed his arms, but made no acknowledgement of her internal distress.
Kagome gritted her teeth and nodded her head, I wonder if he care for me, or if I’m just this young female parading herself around him, when I have no chance to win his heart?
“Can we stop to rest for a bit?” her voice was somber.
Miroku turned a worried glance to her, his eyes hooded, “That does sound like a good idea, don’t you think Sango?”
Sango stared at Kagome for a long moment before she nodded, “Yes, yes it does.”
Inuyasha snorted, but stayed oddly silent as he kept walking ahead.
Kagome watched his back, her mind made up. She was tired of being on the back burner, second best to Kikyou. All she had wanted was to have Inuyasha look at her the same. She swallowed hard, this time the sadness starting to overwhelm her as she chewed on her bottom lip to keep quiet.
It was over.
She had made her decision.
