Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] fan_flashworks : #40 - Purgatory

--

The castle had fallen silent days ago and that only meant that Naraku was scheming treacherous plots to hinder the ragtag bunch, even as they sought to hunt him down and viciously gut him. Or at least that’s what she anticipated every time she imagined them all spilling into the castle courtyards, weapons ready and aimed with precision. Even if he was her sire, she wanted to see that worthless hanyou Inuyasha gut Naraku with everything he had in him. He was probably the only one with enough conviction to even be able to pull it off.

Exhaling, Kagura opened her eyes and stared up into the swirling miasma that hid the castle away from wandering youkai and those too stupid to get too close, least the miasma poison their very bodies and suck them dry of all life. It was also her prison, her purgatory to spend eternity bound to Naraku simply because he controlled the only thing that had ever mattered to her...

Her heart.

Her freedom.

The two were one in the same. If Naraku released her heart, she would finally have freedom. Many times since her creation and insubordination, Naraku had viciously faked his death and given her free reign for a short time, just to torture her more in the end. The pain it caused when he laughingly ripped her heart back from her chest, crushed every ounce of obedience left in her. She was tired of feeling empty on the inside, the lack of no heart led her to do many an awful deed by her master’s orders.

All she wanted now was his death, but at the same time, she knew she could not be the one to kill him, for the simple fact of he held her bound to him by her heart. No, she’d had to get another to exact her revenge.

Kagura sneered at the dark sky, not even the sun was visible through the swirling haze as she plucked a feather from her hair. She twirled the white feather in her fingertips, wishing she could have free flight to be able to soar with the wind as she pleased. Kagura slumped forward, resting her chin in her hand she crossed her legs that dangled off the edge of the sloped roof. She held the feather up, staring at the stark white item against the backdrop of the dark surroundings. How fitting that it reminded her of Sesshoumaru.

The thought of the demon lord made her pause in contemplation. She’d gone to him once before and had been regally turned away, not to mean punished by Naraku’s minions greatly for trying to even illicit the help of a demon she thought could be strong enough to kill Naraku.

She had been foolish that day, even more so by heeding to Naraku’s commands on many occasions to capture or attack the groups viding for Naraku’s head, when she had foolishly thought that by doing so he would release her. But that was never the case with the evil that was her master, torturer, and executioner.

Remembering the demon lord’s stoic demure that day she had gone to him for help was ingrained into her memory as he turned her down. How she wished he could have helped her, but she knew the reason like most… she was a spawn of Naraku, his minion, his useless disobedient dog. No one, Inuyaha... Sesshoumaru... even the wolf Kouga that she had been ordered to torture with the deaths of his fellow comrades, no one would lift a finger to help her. Not that she was worth it.

Kagura released a long breath, “Killing myself would be so much easier.”

That too was not an option. As long Naraku kept her heart from her body, she was at his mercy. With a sigh, Kagura slipped her feather back into her hair, her fingers toying with one of the jade bead earrings she wore.

Kagura, come to me. I have a task for you.

She closed her eyes against the voice calling out to her in her mind.

“Naraku,” she whispered, before exhaling slowly and shifted to stand on the roof’s edge.

It seemed he had started to put his newest scheme into motion. With dread building in her stomach, she stepped off the roof and let the wind caress her a she free-fell, until it whipped her around as she pulled her feather out of her hair again, letting it fully transform this time. Landing with grace on the feather, Kagura crouched and soared on the wind to where her master was calling her to.

Her purgatory was unending just as Naraku wanted it. And as far as she could envision, she would be his servant in an eternal hell until he was finally stopped for good.
