Kagome pulled out the barstool from her counter and stepped up, planting her rump in the seat. With nothing to do and no where to go on a Sunday night, the twenty-nine year old English teacher found herself reading the newspaper. She turned a page and folded it up so she could read it better as she idly lifted a spoon to her mouth full of cereal.

“Hmm, horoscope for the day,” Kagome snorted at the column, not understanding why some people lived their life by the stupidest reasons. Even so, she found herself skimming the column to her zodiac sign and reading it aloud, “Your fierce, brainy energy is making life easier for you today, but not in a boring way! Your great ideas and big plans help you to see the best way to cut through the bureaucracy and get your way.”

Laughing around a mouthful a cereal, Kagome turned the page and continued reading the newspaper. When her bowl was empty, she reluctantly slid from her barstool and went to wash her dish out.

“Back to grading papers,” she mumbled to herself as she went to climb the stairs, returning to her bedroom where she had laid out all her work to get done that night. “Making my life easier?” She shook her head, not believing it for a minute.

Entering her bedroom, she flipped the light on and dropped herself unceremoniously onto her bed amongst the scattering binders and loose papers. Kagome looked over the organized mess and sighed, not having the energy to even pick up her grading pen one more time that night. The black and white words having blended together hours ago.

Kagome sighed and grabbed her blackberry from atop her briefcase, scrolling through her received messages, before she paused, an idea coming to her.

“Get your way…” she hummed the words from the horoscope. She knew they didn’t mean what she was planning, but it still empowered her as she thumbed the ball of her blackberry through her contacts list.

Staring at the name for a long minute, she opened the number in a text as she sent her fellow co-worker a message. How has your break been?

Feeling idiotic as she stared at the ‘Sent’ blinking back at her, Kagome grumbled and laid back on the bed, “I shouldn’t have even bothered. He’s going to think I’m a total dork even if I’m his co-worker.”

Her rant was cut short by the sound of an incoming message. She stared over at her hand before bringing it back to her face, reading the screen of her phone.

Grading papers like usual, bet yours has been better.

Kagome smiled, typing her response, before she smiled to herself, “Get your way… maybe not, but it’s not boring now either!” Laughing she sent the text.
