“You sure this is safe to use around our sensitive companions?” Miroku asked, eyeing Sango as she crouched low to a small fire she had kindled.
“Perfectly,” the youkai taijiya said, her voice muffled through her mask.
“I feel a little unnerved with her wearing that mask,” Shippo piped up from Miroku’s shoulder.
Kagome leaned her bike against her side as she stood back behind the cloud of smoke that started to rise, Sango fanning the fire. She looked around, finding the self proclaimed leader of the group missing, “Has anyone seen Inuyasha?”
“I think he went up to scout for the demon,” Miroku motioned toward the canopy of trees.
“Eck, that stuff reeks!” Kagome hissed, covering her nose as she caught a whiff.
Sango continued to fan the small fire, the smoke rising higher, just as their fearless leader fell through the canopy of tree limbs, making quite a spectacular crash landing in the clearing. Sango paused in her fanning and stared at the hayou, who was visibly disoriented as leaves fluttered to the ground around him.
“I think she was wrong,” Miroku said, pointing out the obvious as the kit pup rolled of his shoulder and into his arms, in the same state as Inuyasha seemed to be in. “Well... we caught the wrong youkai. You should probably try again,” the monk chuckled and gently unloaded Shippo into Kagome's bicycle basket.
“Next time, they should probably wear the masks,” Kagome quipped.
Sango shrugged her shoulders in feigned innocence.
