“Hawke?” Fenris stood beside her on the deck of the cargo ship, looking out over the crashing waves of the Waking Sea.

It had only been a day since they had escaped Kirkwall in the wake of all that had happened, catching a ship that had willingly allowed them aboard to ferry them to a far off destination, far from the Free Marches. Hawke’s gaze seemed to never waver from the sea that stretched out to the distant horizon.

“I’m left with nothing again,” she finally spoke, turning to face the elf in the fading light of sunset. She fisted her hand and swallowed past a lump that had drawn up in her throat, “Everything I’ve worked hard for the last ten years… it’s all gone.”

“Everything was not in vain,” Fenris stepped close, his palm caressing her cheek in comfort.

“Show me,” she stared at him evenly and he could see she was trying to be strong, “Show me that I didn’t just leave everything behind back there!”

His gaze flickered back and forth from her eyes to her lips, before he pulled her against him, capturing her mouth with his, kissing her until she was breathless and even beyond. She shoved at his chest and only then did he release his tight hold on her, her eyes searching his for answers to her many unanswered questions and all he had was one.

“You are still alive Hawke,” he spoke, “That should be enough to give you hope. You are alive and you can continue to live.”

She stared at him for a while before nodding her head tersely, stepping from the comfort of his arms, leaving him cold with her dismiss.

“Maybe you’re right, Fenris…” she mumbled, looking back out to the sea, “I just don’t think I’ll have the energy to keep running like this. I wasn’t made for this life.”

Fenris stayed quiet, before looking off to the horizon, “This life found you, Hawke, best make the most out of it.”

She snorted, tossing a lazy stare at him and he returned it with a raised brow.
