writerverse : Challenge #28 - Drabble Tree
--
“Hei,” Yen’s voice was calm, the same as it always was. But to Hei, he could tell the difference in her pitch, even if it was subtle or nonexistent — he still heard it. Hei slowed his pace, the grip on her hand tight and solid, as he pulled her off the sidewalk and into an alleyway.
“You alright?” he caressed her cheek with his thick gloves, watching as she stared off.
“Yes,” she replied, still calm and unmoving as Hei slumped against the wall, sliding down to the ground with a rush of an heavy exhale.
Hei watched her closely, before looking away, “We’ll take a quick break, so rest up.”
“Is it safe here?” she asked, blindly touching the brick wall.
With a tired breath, Hei ran a gloved hand through his hair, “Not generally speaking.”
