“Alvin,” Jude stared at him, the dim lights from the lantern throwing shadows across the room, “couldn’t sleep?”
“Got a lot on my mind, kid,” Alvin ran his hand through his shaggy tresses before he plopped onto his bed across from Jude’s. “You should be asleep, we got a big day tomorrow.” The sarcasm dripped from his empty words, just as he shrugged off his coat, draping it on the end of the bed.
Jude continued to stare at him, his eyes far too haunted than they should have been at his age. Alvin could feel the distaste for that look build up, which he quickly stomped it back down with a forced sigh.
“Get some sleep, don’t want to keep Gaius waiting in the morning,” Alvin grumbled and flopped onto his back, effortlessly ending the conversation before it had started.
Jude shook his head and pulled the covers back up to his chest as he settled back down against his flat pillow. “Good night Alvin,” Jude mumbled, knowing the brunette wouldn’t give him a response.
