--
It had become routine by now for Orlando to begin their morning ritual.
First, he’d help Dante into a wheelchair and take him out to the monastery gardens, where he had a wash bin set up. The dedicated monk would tenderly lather Dante’s chin and neck, taking his straight blade to carefully shave him.
But this time, Dante interrupted their routine by shoving his hands away when he tried to lather him with shaving cream.
“Is there something wrong,” Orlando cleared his throat, stepping around to face the Italian, who was staring towards the hills that went off into the horizon. “Dante?”
“Look at all the brilliant colors,” his voice was distant, just as his eyes.
Orlando hesitated in touching the man’s scared cheek, instead he turned to face the same vista that Dante seemed so captivated. “You see them every morning.”
“They look different this time,” Dante’s hard features softened, gaze darting.
Orlando glanced back towards the hills, a rare smile turning the corners of his lips, “Yeah, the view is different today.” He stepped back around the wheelchair, and grabbed the clean rag, “Now, let’s get you shaved.”
